Supporting Families Who Home Educate
The City of Playford recognises that home education is a unique and flexible learning journey. While Council does not provide formal home education programs, there is a range of helpful resources, local opportunities and flexible learning experience available across our community.
Libraries & Learning Spaces
The Playford Library Service offers free access to books, online learning tools, study spaces, and community programs that support learning at home.
Families can access:
- Borrowing across a wide range of educational resources
- Free Wi-Fi and study spaces
- School holiday programs and activities
- Digital learning platforms and databases
Programs, Activities & Events
The City of Playford offers a variety of programs, activities and events that may support home learning, including:
- Creative workshops
- STEM and discovery sessions
- Library-based activities
- Community events and experiences
- Children's University
Children’s University
Children’s University is an exciting learning program that encourages children and young people to explore learning beyond the classroom.
How it works:
- Children receive a passport to record their learning journey
- They earn stamps (credits) by attending approved learning activities
- Activities include library programs, workshops, holiday events, and community learning experiences
What you can do at Playford:
- Participate in selected library programs during school terms and holidays
- Attend eligible Council or community-run learning events
- Collect stamps in your Children’s University passport
Other Children’s University Information:
- Learning Destinations in Playford include: John McVeity Centre (JMC), The Precinct, and Playford Libraries
- Cost: $16.50 per year, per child
- Age range: 7–14 years
- Enrolments: Open once per year in February only
- There is no expression of interest form — families are placed on a waiting list when enrolments close

Participation details and availability:
- Children’s University activities are offered at selected times throughout the year
- Places may be limited depending on program capacity
