Celebrating female football in Playford
You’ll find on this page:
This July, the City of Playford will celebrate female football with a line-up of activities to mark its involvement in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Australia and New Zealand.
Activities range from the unveiling of a Kaurna art mural to a female football super clinic open to young players, featuring food and music with a touch of Panama’s Central American flair.
Playford has been selected as a host city and will provide a base camp for the Panama Women’s National Football team out of the Playford Sports Precinct at Ridley Reserve.
Panama will play against Brazil at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide on 24 July in their first match of the series. Five games will be played in Hindmarsh in total.
Get involved
People can get involved in the World Cup in Playford through our local events. More events may be released through out the next month and this webpage will be updated progressively.
Events
Focused events will be held across major sport facilities, including Playford Bowling Club, Ridley Reserve Training Centre, John McVeity Centre, and Playford Tennis Centre.
One of the events is a masterclass on inspiring women in sport, complete with talks from well-known professional athletes and coaches like ex-Matilda Tracey Jenkins and Adelaide United Women’s Captain Isabel Hodgson.
To mark NAIDOC Week, which falls on the first week of July, a legacy mural by indigenous artist Scott Rathman will be unveiled in Ridley Reserve Sports Precinct. Designed with a nod to community and welcoming, its placement at the precinct recognises the location as a meeting point for the duration of the celebrations.
