- Job expo returns to Playford!
The Northern Adelaide Jobs and Careers Expo will once again bring together employers, training providers and jobseekers at the Playford Civic Centre, with more than 100 exhibitors taking part in this year’s event.
In partnership between the City of Playford and the Local Jobs Program Adelaide North, the expo will run from 10am to 2.30pm on Thursday, October 30. It will connect employers, key industry professionals, training providers and career advisors, and present local job seekers with a range of employment and training opportunities.
The event highlights employment pathways across northern Adelaide’s growing sectors. It will showcase collaboration between local government, education providers and employers.
The expo includes a jobs board with more than 200 employment opportunities and workshops through the Pathway to Your Future program, covering resume writing, interview skills, career advice and presentation. A new Career Exploration Challenge invites participants to explore key industry sectors, with those who complete either activity eligible to enter a prize draw.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty is thrilled the partnership with Local Jobs Program Adelaide North will deliver the Northern Adelaide Jobs and Careers Expo, helping to create a space for local employers, training providers and jobseekers to connect.
“The event is designed to help people build confidence, develop their skills and make valuable connections, all under one roof!” Mayor Docherty said.
“The City of Playford remains committed to supporting employment growth in our region. With strong industries in defence, manufacturing, health, horticulture, retail, hospitality, construction and education, there has never been a better time to explore the opportunities available locally.”
Last year’s event highlighted the importance of creating pathways to employment. Local business Williams Metal Fabrication showcased this success by hiring an international student as a Production Engineer through connections made at the expo.
In the past, Williams Metal Fabrication director Stuart Rogers has struggled to attract local employees and find skilled workers.
“Our industry struggles to find new employees – the expo is a chance to promote the boilermaker-welder trade, as well as meet potential employees. Finding Madusha (through the expo) is a bonus and we look forward to working together,” Mr Rogers said.
Employment service provider Jobedge had its own success stories emerge from last year’s event, after engaging with a variety of jobseekers, local businesses and community organisations.
Jobedge Regional Manager Rebecca Beaumont believes the expo provided an opportunity for participants to connect with the Disability Employment Services program.
“We’re looking forward to the 2025 expo and continuing to build opportunities together,” Ms Beaumont said.
Panel discussions will run throughout the day in the Shedley Theatre, offering insights from employers and industry professionals on workplace expectations, what they value in potential employees and emerging job opportunities.
The Shedley Cafe will be open, providing free coffee and tea prepared by local trainees - Rotary Club of Elizabeth will host a fundraising BBQ with sausages available for a gold coin donation.
The City of Playford acknowledges the valuable contribution of its sponsors in making the event possible, with special thanks to Platinum Sponsors Pivot Training and Status Employment Services.
