Bookings are open for more than 20 fun-filled school holiday activities, as Playford launches its much-anticipated July program to help provide families with plenty of reasons to stay out of the wintery weather!
From sporting clinics to a Winter Wonderland Market and NAIDOC in the North, the Playford community is spoilt for choice over the next few weeks, and it all kicks off on Tuesday, 8 July.
Activity bookings open on Monday, 23 June and the program begins with offering young people a chance to try NRL for free at a Come & Try Rugby session on 8 July from 10am-12pm at the John McVeity Centre. This action-packed session is for ages 8-12 and can be booked via leaguestars.com.
Our community’s youngest members can also enjoy the program’s first day with two, free Maggie Moo morning sessions at JMC – 9am for birth to 18 months and 18 months to 4 years at 10am and no bookings are required.
Families with mini green thumbs at home can also get involved in The Precinct’s Worm Garden activity on 8 July. From 10.30am to 11.30am, ages 5-12 can enjoy this session for $5.
Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty is delighted Playford families can enjoy a fun-filled break this July and get involved in plenty of new activities.
“This exciting program will not just provide Playford families with engaging activities but also plenty of indoor fun to stay out of the wintery weather. These activities will be highly sought after so make sure you book,” Mayor Docherty said.
“We always endeavour to deliver our community great programs during each school holiday break across the year. It encourages families to get out and about, spend valuable time together and embrace their community in new ways.”
Our local large-scale event, NAIDOC in the North, is returning for its second year on Wednesday, 9 July from 10am-2pm. Held at JMC, this free event connects and celebrates culture across our community.
On Thursday, 10 July, the fun continues with Picasso On Wheels from 10.30am-12.30pm at The Precinct. Young people aged 5-12 years can explore their creativity through art making for $10.
For families with children who love to dance, multiple Come & Try dance sessions will be held. For those who love acrobatics, a session for ages 5-12 will be held on Thursday, 10 July from 4pm-4.45pm at JMC and for those aged 5-12 years who love high-energy hip hop moves, a session will be held on Thursday, 17 July, from 4pm-4.45pm. Both sessions are $5 and bookings can be made via Eventbrite.
On Saturday, 12 July, the program will feature the Winter Wonderland Market from 3pm-6.30pm at JMC. There will be more than 30 stalls from local businesses and plenty of activities for children.
That night, the family movie screening of Smallfoot will also be held at JMC from 6.15pm. This event is free but requires bookings.
On Monday, 14 July, kickstart your futsal skills with former Futsalroo – Chris Higgins. For $7, ages 5-12 can get involved from 9am-11.30am at JMC.
An Inflatables Day at JMC on Friday, 18 July will bring to life jumping castles and other inflatables which are perfect for ages 3-15. This event will be $5 and multiple sessions will be held.
Play Gym, Toy Swap, Muddy Play and Grow Your Own Winter Soup Garden will also feature during the holidays.
