- Apply to be a performing artist at WOMADelaide
The WOMADelaide x Northern Sound System Academy Stage is calling for emerging artists to submit an expression of interest to perform at WOMADelaide 2026, helping to elevate Playford’s creative industries and its performers.
For the first time, emerging artists — particularly those from First Nations and culturally diverse backgrounds, are invited to apply for the opportunity to perform at Botanic Park/Tainmuntilla from 6–9 March.
This initiative is part of the successful WOMADelaide x NSS Academy Music Training and Development Program which was established in 2020.
To be eligible, artists or groups must be aged 18–30, with at least 50 percent of group members residing in South Australia and able to perform a 30-minute set of original music.
In previous years, the Academy Stage has showcased diverse and dynamic emerging acts across genres including hip-hop, folk, indie rock and experimental music.
The stage highlights young emerging First Nations and culturally diverse artists from SA, while a partnership with Barley Arts helps to deliver a vital training and skills development program for sound and stage technicians.
NSS Creative Industries manager Georgy Rochow is looking forward to seeing the diverse local talent hit the stage.
“The Academy Stage offers an exciting opportunity for emerging artists to be part of WOMADelaide. We look forward to discovering the local talent that comes through this application process,” Ms Rochow said.
Mayor Glenn Docherty is excited one of the world’s great festivals WOMADelaide will showcase young artists from Playford and across South Australia.
“This partnership with NSS will help elevate emerging talent and open doors for the next generation of performers,” Mayor Docherty said.
“The WOMADelaide x NSS Academy has become a powerhouse for emerging talent.
Opening expressions of interest for the 2026 festival is an exciting next step and I encourage local artists to get involved and showcase their creativity.”
Applications close on 15 December and the full application criteria can be found at www.northernsoundsystem.com.au.
