Support and Social

Men’s Programs

We have created various programs within the City of Playford aimed at fostering environments where men are comfortable taking charge of their own health and wellbeing. The programs also provide a space for men to enjoy their hobbies, give back to their community and make new connections and friends.

Friendly Visiting

Volunteers regularly visit people at home, offering friendship, information and support. Beyond friendly conversation, participants and volunteers may exchange tips and resources, share experiences and connect with others in the community.

As some older residents may not be physically able to exercise themselves or their pets, our friendly New Leash on Life volunteers are here to help by taking your pooch to the park. The program matches animal-loving volunteers with dogs who are no longer able to be walked by their older owners. Trained volunteers will visit your house at least once a week and take your dog for a walk for up to an hour around your local area. This exercise will keep your dog happy and healthy, greatly improving both the quality of their life and yours!

Friendly visiting is a great way to make new social connections and build meaningful relationships, while giving your animal the quality of life they deserve.

Disability Programs and Activities

Here at the City of Playford, we provide National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and social inclusion programs and services that help people with a disability develop skills and build social networks. This also helps increase access, raising community awareness and promoting community inclusion.

Participants engage in activities focusing on new skills and new experiences; programs occur in a friendly environment, allowing people to develop new friendships and participate in interesting activities.

Preference for program places go to City of Playford residents, and some programs participants will require a current NDIS plan with approved Core Supports funding.

Program participants will:

  • Learn new skills and participate in new experiences
  • Develop friendships and share experiences with others
  • Enjoy a mix of centre-based and community activities
  • Have a flexible program to meet individual needs
  • Meet new people and have fun

Rural Programs for Older People

Rural Programs are available for older people living in the City of Playford's rural areas, and is a great way to bring older people together, especially if it's difficult for them to complete activities on their own.

Participants come from areas including One Tree Hill, Virginia, and neighbouring regions - this service provides opportunities for residents to access services, as well as participate in activities in a social setting. The Rural Programs for Older People initiative operates from the Virginia and One Tree Hill institutes.
