A partnership has been forged between the City of Playford, Wellbeing SA, Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing, Department of Human Services and other state government agencies to develop Northern Adelaide’s first Wellbeing Hub.

The Playford Wellbeing Hub will deliver a range of programs and services to support community physical, social and mental health and wellbeing. The initiatives will include a focus on supporting young people, families and older residents to stay socially connected and active, with a focus on wellbeing through food, physical activity and other health and wellbeing supports.

Activities will include ‘come and try sports’ at the John McVeity Centre, healthy eating through gardening and cooking programs, open days, art projects and other activities at The Precinct which support social and community connectedness.

City of Playford’s Mayor Glenn Docherty, said: “Council’s ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of our community is reflected through the many services we offer including our sport and recreation facilities, community garden, cycling and walking paths. The Playford Wellbeing Hub will continue to build on these foundations to benefit members in our community.”

“We welcome this new partnership that will create additional opportunities for our community to participate in healthy living initiatives and feel more socially connected,” he said.

Wellbeing SA Chief Executive Lyn Dean, said: “Wellbeing SA is excited to be working with the City of Playford and our state government partners to implement new initiatives to support wellbeing, including in response to the impacts of COVID-19, by encouraging the community to stay healthy, active and connected.”

“Through the Open Your World website we have provided resources, tools and information to support the wellbeing of all South Australians and these new initiatives complement this, providing programs and activities for Playford residents,” she said

The Wellbeing Hub spans across The Precinct, 112 Coventry Rd, and the John McVeity Centre, 182 Peachey Rd, in Smithfield Plains.

The Playford Wellbeing Hub is a partnership project between the City of Playford and the South Australian Government under the Wellbeing SA Statewide Wellbeing Strategy.
