The $5.5M Eyre Sports Park scores a try following the official opening of the complex in one of the newest housing developments in Playford on Saturday, 30 June.
The local sporting community, along with project partners AVJennings, City of Playford and NRL SA came together to mark the momentous occasion.
Eyre Sports Park is now home to three tenant clubs, Central Districts Rugby League Club, Eyre Royals Cricket Club and Northern Wolves Soccer Club.
CDRL president Adam Levi said the clubs were excited to move into their new home with rugby kicking off training last week.
“It has been a good arm of collaboration, inclusion and team work in the community, supporting anyone who wishes to play sport,” Mr Levi said.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the new facility would continue to inspire the next generation of sporting legends.
“Sport has a central role in many people’s lives, it’s our vision to make sure we have a fit, active and participant community,” Mayor Docherty said.
The Roosters’ juniors have tried and tested the grounds, giving it the thumbs up.
“I think it’s pretty cool, we have more space than our last home ground,” Mali said.
“It’s awesome to play on and when we play here, we are proud to say it’s our ground,” Souljah added.
Developer AVJennings has announced a two-year sponsorship deal to support the tenant clubs to continue to deliver development pathways.
“We hope this additional contribution will encourage local young people to get involved in sport through these clubs and for them to be active, healthy and enjoy the benefit that this sporting community can deliver,” State General Manager, Brian Virgo, said.
