The City of Playford will celebrate the International Day of People with Disability with a special event, recognising the efforts of local people this Friday night.
The successes and achievements of Playford residents with disability will be showcased at a special awards night this Friday.
The Celebration of Ability, held in conjunction with International Day of People with Disability, highlights the valuable contributions made by those in Playford with disability, or who are supporting people with disability.
As part of the event, the City of Playford Mayoral Awards will be presented by Glenn Docherty, while Paralympian Jocelyn Neumuller will be guest speaker.
Mayor Docherty said the Celebration of Ability is an important annual event.
“This event really showcases the skills and talents of people with disability within the Playford community,” Mayor Docherty said.
“It also promotes the services available to people with disability in our area, and highlights the good work those organisations do in working with our residents.”
The International Day of People with Disability is an annual event that highlights how people with disability can often be excluded from society, as well as promoting the removal of those barriers.
This year’s Celebration of Ability theme, Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want, is in line with the international event and promotes the removal of all types of barriers; including those relating to the physical environment, information and communications technology (ICT), or attitudinal barriers.
All are welcome to attend Friday night’s event, which includes dinner, drinks and entertainment.
The Celebration of Ability will be held at the John McVeity Centre (7pm to 11pm) at 182 Peachey Road, Smithfield Plains.
Tickets ($12 per person or $10 concession) for this event are still available, for more information contact Janine Anderson (8256 0224 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
