City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said Council was excited to bring a bigger and more diverse range of opportunities for the community to participate in Visual Arts in 2019.

“This year you will see more exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations as the city brings artists to community venues near you,” Mayor Docherty said.

Playford has a strong arts community and as a Council our main focus will be to promote the talent of our creatives and support those who wish to pursue a career in the Arts.

The Playford SALA program features an exhibition, The Unusual, a collective of works by artists from Arts North at the Stretton Centre and a community art installation, The Playford Peace Poles, at the Elizabeth Rise Centre.

Local artist, Colin Trenaman’s work will feature as part of The Unusual and he is excited to showcase his artwork.

“It is great opportunity for any artist to be given an exhibition space to promote your work locally because it can be challenge,” Colin said.

The artist will also facilitate one of the many workshops available over the month across the City. Trenaman’s love for accessible digital art will see creating made even easier with his mobile phone art workshop at Northern Sound System.

“I use everyday objects to form of my art, it’s a way of finding beauty in everything and by using my phone to draw I can capture that anywhere,” he said.
