Local school students head to China to perform at major music festival.

From busking at the Elizabeth City Centre to performing on the Great Wall of China, that’s the journey a group of talented northern suburbs high school students recently undertook.

Sixteen students from Playford International College, based at Elizabeth, recently travelled to China to perform at the prestigious Tutti World Youth Music Festival in Beijing.

It was a hard road for the Special Interest Music Program students, busking and undertaking other fundraising activities to ensure they could embark upon the tour, which for most, was their first overseas trip.

The tour group included the school’s Stage Band and Jazz Combo, who performed a mix of originals and cover versions.

The tour was made possible through the City of Playford’s special relationship with the City of Zibo, a key platform of which is sport and education.

This was a very rare opportunity for Australian students to undertake a tour of China as a performing outfit, while performing on the Great Wall of China was the icing on the cake.

Meanwhile, the school’s Stage Band, Jazz Choir and Community Choir also performed at the Balaklava Eisteddfod.

The Stage Band collected second place in its category, whole the Jazz Choir was awarded third position.
