The City of Playford and the local community commemorated Anzac Day with a well-attended service at the Smithfield Memorial Gardens this week. ^^ The community, young and old, paid their respects at the 2017 Anzac Day Dawn Service at Smithfield Memorial Gardens. Photos: Rob McLean An overnight vigil preceded the dawn service, with local youth

from the TS Stuart Australian Navy Cadets, Playford District Girl Guides, Edinburgh Park Scouts Group and St John Cadets participating. Wet weather did not deter the young people from their role.

Fortunately, weather conditions were perfect for the 6am Dawn Service, which was led by Pastor Bryan Sellers and featured a poetry reading by City of Playford Citizen of the Year and Vietnam veteran Robin Bruce and performances by the Playford International Vocal Ensemble. The Smithfield service was one of four held across the City on Anzac Day, with commemorations also held at the Elizabeth RSL, Elizabeth and Salisbury Naval Association of Australia and at

One Tree Hill.
