Northern Sound System cleans up at the recent South Australian Music Awards.

Northern Sound System (NSS) has recently won the MusicSA Community Award at the South Australian Music Awards last Thursday night. NSS, the youth music and creative centre based in Elizabeth, received the trophy in recognition of its community focused programs and ability to connect and inspire young people.

Local punk band, LOLA, were awarded the Best New Artist gong and are managed by NSS' own, Hannah Weeks.

"We’re absolutely over the moon! Winning awards was the last thing on our mind when starting a punk band, but it sure feels good to get some recognition – we’ve worked so hard over the past couple years, “she said.

And it hasn’t stopped there. With another single release tipped for Friday December 9, Hannah and the band have another whirlwind year ahead.

"LOLA are kicking off 2023 by supporting Dear Seattle and then heading back out on a national tour. It’s hard to believe it gets better than this, but we’re keen to keep giving it everything we got!"

Hannah credits NSS for its ability to stimulate the creative music industry in the northern suburbs of Adelaide and beyond.

"There is no place in in the world like Northern Sound System. No matter what stage an artist is at NSS is a safe place with no judgement, encouraging each and every person to be 100 per cent themselves and create art that they are proud of.

"NSS gave me my dream job when I was just 19 – how many people can say that!

"The opportunities for growth and professional development I have received since stepping through these doors is unbelievable", said Hannah.

Up and coming NSS alumni Elsy Wameyo cleaned up on the night also, receiving five awards in total for Best Song, Best Release, Best Solo Artist, Best Music Video and Best Studio Engineer/Producer.

Other NSS alumni award recipients include Marlon x Rulla, Teenage Joans and TOWNS.
