Babes + Picnics is starting an Elizabeth branch to bring northern mums and their children together for fun, socialising and support.

The group’s first event is on Monday, 15 January (10.30am to 12.30pm) and will feature a baby-sleep consultant as guest speaker.

There will also be a mobile coffee van and donations on the day will support Essentials for Women.

Local woman Rhiannon Christerson said Babes + Picnics is a chance for mums to meet once a month for a chat.

“It’s a support group without that pressure of having to ask for support,” Rhiannon said.

Rhiannon said the upgraded Fremont Park is a fantastic venue due to its access to public transport and main roads.

“It’s also a great venue because there’s lots of space, grass, shade, toilets and a playground that is toddler friendly – which is often hard to find,” she said.

“It looks really good now.”

Stage one works at Fremont Park were completed ahead of December’s Playford Christmas Community Carols and this month’s Playford’s annual Australia Day celebrations.

New lighting, rebuilt and resurfaced shared-use pathways, repairs to the waterways and substantial new grassed areas and landscaping treatments have raised the iconic Fremont Park to its highest standard yet.

Minor works will continue throughout 2018 to ensure Fremont Park stays in top shape for the increasing number of community events planned for the location.
