Does your property have a septic tank? Did you know that heavy rain and flooding can affect the ability of the system to treat wastewater from your home.

When the soil around your septic system is water logged, effluent from the tank is unable to drain. This can cause the septic system to fail and sewage from your house to back up into bathrooms and laundries.

Clearing surface water from the septic system and soakage area

If you live in an area where flooding may occur, we advise you to pump any surface water away from the septic tank and

soakage area. Pumps can be hired from professional equipment and plant hire businesses in your local area. You can contact our Customer Care team on 8256 0333 for a list of septic pump out contractors.

Pumping of septic and trenches

For the septic to work properly, you will need to hire a contractor who pumps out septic tanks. You will need to get the septic tank and soakage trench pumped out. You will need to do this until the soil around the soakage trench has dried out.

Safety warnings

Please do not let children or pets play in the water over the septic tank or soakage trenches as this may be contaminated with raw sewage. If you suspect that your child has played in a contaminated area, you should seek medical advice immediately.
