Non-profit community organisations, groups and associations within the City of Playford have received support to activate their goals through Council’s Community Development Grants program.

The successful recipients of the 2024/2025 Community Development Grant Program - Round 2 were announced on 27 May, after the committee decided on seven successful projects out of 11 applicants.

Through these community grants, Council aims to support and encourage community projects/events that enhance community connectedness and improve the lives of our residents.

City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty is pleased multiple community groups have been successful at bringing their project ideas to life.

“We are proud to assist our community to develop their ideas and provide programs which directly benefit our community. It supports our community’s growth by enhancing community connection,” Mayor Docherty said.

“The funding also plays a vital role in supporting groups in our community to go bigger and better with their innovative projects with the support of Council.”

Round 2 of the grant program provided $31,852 of funding, with up to $5000 available to each eligible applicant.

The list of successful projects is varied with Acholi Community Association SA receiving $3,979 to bring their 25 December event to life. They will mark the day with a colourful celebration to bring the community together and break down barriers with isolated community members.

Australian Communities Connections is a newly formed organisation who will host a celebration combining two major festivals of Southeast Asia - Dussehra (Dashain) and Diwali in October and November 2025. They received $5000 to bring performances, local artists, food stalls and interactive activities such as lamp making to the community.

ACC managing director Om Guragai is excited to take hold of the opportunity to bring many cultures together for a big celebration.

“We want to showcase how a variety of sub-cultures can live in a beautiful country in harmony,” Mr Guragai said.

“By gathering our vulnerable and marginalised people living in the community and celebrating together, we can build a stronger community. Everyone is welcome to join us.”

Adelaide Dragon Sporting Club will put $5000 toward its Multicultural Soccer Championship which will bring 15 multicultural community soccer clubs and organisations from various cultural backgrounds to Kalara Reserve in November 2025.

The Dalkeith Country Fire Service received $5000 to help support an Open Day later this year and Lieutenant George Bambach is excited to promote awareness of fire safety and the local station’s emergency response capabilities.

“The event will engage the community and help to grow our volunteer base. It will provide the community an opportunity to see what we do and get involved with us in the future,” Lt Bambach said.

“We are also hoping those who want to support the brigade in a behind the scenes capacity in areas such as fundraising and communications, will also come along to the Open Day to find out more.

“With the support from Council it allows us to continue to help the community. The Council’s direct involvement supports us to promote safety and provide a vital service.”

The free event will also feature demonstrations from SA Metro Fire Service, SA Ambulance, SA Police and other volunteer organisations.

The Angle Vale Sports and Community Association will put on its Community Market with its successful application for $5000. The event will be held on Sunday, 9 November 2025 with approximately 70 stallholders, car show, children’s entertainment, music and food vendors.

Elizabeth Grove Soccer Club’s ‘Breaking Barriers’ initiative will get a boost with $2500 to provide sponsorships for players from low-income families and fund coach development programs for individuals who cannot afford accreditation courses.

Zamar Collective has received $5000 to hold weekly music workshops between June and December to empower young people in Playford by providing a structured and creative program that integrates music education with engaging social discussions.

These Community Development Grants offer financial support to non-profit community organisations, local groups and associations for proposals that activate community spaces, deliver innovative, creative or new opportunities for the Playford community to become involved in their local community.

Council also support projects which encourage arts, cultural development, health and wellbeing, demonstrate collaboration between organisations and initiate locally based events which make a positive contribution to the community and cultural life in the City of Playford.
