Local students to utilise Uni Hub Playford!

A group of university students have completed a two-week internship with Uni Hub Playford and the City of Playford, gaining hands on experience that supported one of the region's largest employment events.

The interns played a key role in the Northern Adelaide Jobs and Careers Expo by researching data, analysing labour trends and identifying current vacancies across Adelaide’s north.

Their work helped ensure jobseekers at the Expo had access to live employment opportunities they could apply for on the day.

The four students were connected to Uni Hub Playford through local networking events, including a UniSA speed networking session that brought together hundreds of students seeking placements. One of the students joined after attending a youth mentoring workshop at Uni Hub Playford.

Mechanical Engineering - Aerospace student George Yorke said the two-week experience provided him with valuable real-life training.

“We were required to follow strict deadlines and complete our workload with a fast turnaround and that really helped me learn how to work within a team,” he said.

George, who recently became a Uni Hub Playford member, is also looking forward to moving into the permanent campus at TAFE SA in Elizabeth.

“It looks like a fantastic facility and I look forward to having some peace and quiet to focus on my study,” he said.

Uni Hub Playford will explore further internship opportunities in the future, with Suburban University Study Hub Coordinator Dr Christie Bryne excited to build on the early success of the program at their permanent site.

“This is really just our first chapter as a service for our community and I see this becoming a place that provides career and study opportunities for university students,” Dr Bryne said.

Mayor Glenn Docherty welcomed the opening of the site and acknowledged the strong performance of the previous location at the Playford Civic Centre Library.

“After establishing itself in mid-April last year, Uni Hub Playford has proven to be an important service that supports our community in their academic pursuits,” Mayor Docherty said.

“The permanent site will give our community greater access to resources and expertise that will help them build their future.”

Uni Hub Playford campus opened at the TAFE SA in Elizabeth on 25 November. A formal grand opening will take place in February.
