How to dispose of your hard waste
Published 21 January 2019
Disposing of hard waste is easier and cheaper than you think.

It is a myth that it is too hard to legally dispose of your hard waste at NAWMA.

Some people say the cost of correctly disposing of their rubbish contributes to their decision to illegally dump excess waste in Playford’s reserves and parks.

But the truth is that most of your household waste items can be taken to NAWMA for free recycling.

What hard waste can you recycle for FREE?

• E-waste (anything with a cord)

• Cardboard

• Steel/metal/plastic

• Waste oil (motor and cooking)

• Car batteries

• Polystyrene

• Clean-film plastic

• Paint tins (Edinburgh North only).

Other items:

• Mattresses – Single ($16), double ($20)

• Car tyres, off-rim ($10), on-rim ($16)

• Large tyres (price on application)

• Gas Cylinders (from $12)

• Waste oil (charge for vessel only)

On top of that, residents have the opportunity to access two hard-waste disposals each financial year, either by a pick-up by NAWMA or via self-delivery – meaning you can dispose of all your items for free.

NAWMA is also currently offering residents of the City of Playford free trailer hire to drop-off hard-waste items at the Resource Recovery Centre in Edinburgh North or Pooraka.

You can help us catch people illegally dumping by visiting playford.sa.gov.au and clicking ‘Online Services’. Dumping expiations start at $1000

NAWMA’s resource recovery centre is located at Bellchambers Road, Edinburgh North, and is open seven days a week (8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday; 9am to 3pm Saturday and Sunday).
