The Smithfield Plains branch of the Playford Community Food Co-operative is relocating to a new home – at 112 Coventry Road, Smithfield Plains, from October 11, just minutes from its current location.

Food Coop

While the popular service is moving from its Peachey Road location, everything else about the Food Co-op will remain the same. City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said that over the past few months, Council has been redeveloping the Coventry Road site into a community precinct.

“The Playford Community Food Co-operative will form part of this new precinct,” Mayor Docherty said.

“The Food Co-op’s lease at the current location is also expiring and the relocation will provide an opportunity for this much-loved and important community service to continue operating in the same way that you have come to expect.

”All of the services you have come to expect of the Food Co-op will remain in place, including the popular rewards systems and our Easy Meal packs. Parking will be available on site, while patrons who used the 451 Adelaide Metro bus to access our current site will be able to use the same route to travel to 112 Coventry Road.

Disability access will also be prominent and the Food Co-op will maintain its current operating hours of 9.30am to 4.30am, Monday to Friday. These changes do not impact the Elizabeth Downs Playford Community Food Co-operative, which will continue to operate as per normal.

Other services

Additionally, the City of Playford is investigating some new opportunities to expand its reach to the community via the facilities available at the new precinct.

“The Playford Men’s Shed will move into the precinct, while the Playford Community Fund will continue to utilise the site for furniture construction projects,” Mayor Docherty said.

“The City of Playford has also had enquiries from several other community organisations and negotiations with these providers is currently taking place.

“Further tenants will be announced over coming months.”
