Dog gone it! Your four-legged friend has escaped and it's Christmas time, what do you do? Pet’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but this time of year can sometimes overwhelm our furry mates. And while we’re all wishing each other ‘fleas navidad’, our furry mates might decide to go for a wander.

Here’s some timely bite-sized howliday reminders from the City of Playford about looking after man’s best friend over the Christmas break:

The festive season can be a ruff time for your pooch – Christmas lunches, big parties and those pesky illegal fireworks can scare your furry friend. Consider putting your little mate in the bathroom or laundry with a radio on to keep them company and away from danger.

If you find a lost dog or your little pal escapes your yard over the Christmas period, please call us on the dog and bone on 8256 0333. Our Community Inspectors will respond between 7am and 11pm each day of the Council’s shutdown period (Friday, 23 December 23 to Tuesday, 3 January).

If you’ve, unfortunately, let your dog out, you can also contact the Animal Welfare League at Edinburgh North (8256 0000) to report or look for a lost dog. It is also worth contacting surrounding Councils as dogs can cross local government boundaries.

And, most importantly, remember to deck the halls with boughs of holly, not collies.

We wish you and your dogs a furry merry Christmas and a snappy new year.
