Playford residents, all let us rejoice for tomorrow is Australia Day.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the City of Playford’s 2017 Australia Day event at Fremont Park, Elizabeth, tomorrow.

The event will feature a free traditional, cooked breakfast, as well as live entertainment, rides, activities, market stalls, food vendors and more to appeal to all ages

An important part of the celebrations, one of the largest of their type in South Australia, will be the presentation of the annual City of Playford Australia Day awards.

The City of Playford’s Mayor Glenn Docherty said the awards acknowledge the valued work and commitment of the unsung heroes of our community.

“The Australia Day awards are a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to someone who makes you proud to be Australian,” Mayor Docherty said.

“Help us recognise and award the people and groups that make the City of Playford a great place to live, work, play, build and grow by attending tomorrow’s event."

Performers at the celebrations include former The Voice contestant, Sarah Lloyde, popular band Wasabi, award-winning women’s acapella singing group High Spirit Harmony and local singers Katie Pomery and Hannah Yates, while Mr Oopy and Pip Squeekz and Pop Starz will entertain the little ones.

Also attending the event will be Australia Day Ambassador Professor Rob Morrison, scientist and well-known co-host of The Curiosity Show.

The public can also test their skills with Adelaide United, see a display of historic vehicles from the National Military Vehicle Museum and enjoy face-painting and an animal nursery.

The free cooked breakfast will be served from 8am, followed by the announcement of the Australia Day Award winners from 10am.

A citizenship ceremony will take place from 1.30pm at the Playford Civic Centre, with over 70 Playford residents taking part to officially call Australia home.
