The much anticipated opening of the $5.5 million Playford City CBD Prince George Plaza is here with an evening full of FREE festivities this October. The internationally acclaimed Adelaide Symphony Orchestra will headline the event and command an audience with its 50-piece ensemble, the first to test the acoustics of the plaza’s amphitheatre.
Crowds will be treated to one of the most loved and best recognised classical works with the Barber of Seville Overture and the sound of the trumpet will echo through the streets with the Hummel Concerto.
The evening will end with an urban light projection where students from Northern Adelaide Senior College will transform the Playford Civic Centre building into an interactive visual art piece.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said it will see the Prince George Plaza, the heart and soul of the Playford City CBD, come to life.
“The Prince George Plaza will be the new civic heart of Elizabeth and this opening is just a hint of what’s to come in the precinct,” Mayor Docherty said.
“In this mixed-use development we will offer unique activities, events and cultural experiences, while providing a link for new and existing retail, commercial and hospitality facilities. The plaza will truly become an entertainment and cultural hub for our community and visitors to the region to enjoy.”
Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Managing Director Vincent Ciccarello said: “Adelaide Symphony Orchestra is delighted to play a role in the official opening of the Playford City CBD’s new Prince George Plaza.
"It is fitting that the ASO – South Australia’s largest performing arts organization, bringing music into the lives of South Australians since 1936 – is there for the opening. We invite everyone in the city of Playford to come and enjoy this FREE outdoor concert – a night of celebration to herald the launch of this new arts and cultural hub”.
During construction of the plaza up to 100 jobs were created, this is anticipated to grow as more developments come online within the Playford City CBD.
“We will continue to provide employment opportunities for people living in the northern suburbs with the construction of the CBD carpark, a multi-purpose office space, medical hub and more,” Mayor Docherty said.
