Michael Wohltmann and guest speaker Lindsay C Campbell CSM from the RAAF Warfare Centre will discuss Woomera and SA becoming a space state.

Author and historian Michael Wohltmann and special guest Lindsay C Campbell CSM will be joining the Playford Library for a special author talk about the history of Woomera: Weapons Research Establishment, Edinburgh, Mallala, and Maralinga this August for Family History Month.

Mr Wohltmann brings a wealth of knowledge through more than 30 years of teaching history and politics. He has also written several books relating to South Australia’s History.

“I have always been interested in the Cold War and the space race” Mr Wohltmann admits.

“… The more I read, the more unanswered questions there were about Woomera. WRE, and Maralinga. I re-read Peter Morton’s book- Fire across the desert which led me to pursue further research”.

Mr Wohltmann discovered many gaps in our history of Woomera which led to him publishing his most recent book Looking back to see the future: A revisionist history of Woomera 1947 – 1980.

Mr Wohltmann will be launching his recently published book on Thursday 18 August, 5.30-7pm, at the Civic Centre Library along with guest speaker Lindsay C Campbell CSM, Staff Officer Force Generation, RAAF Air Warfare Centre.

“Guest Speaker, Lindsay C Campbell CSM will be introducing the session and giving an informative talk about the future of Woomera and SA becoming a space state. Then, I will discuss why I wrote the book and [the past’s] relevance today”.

The session will include open question time, book signing and nibbles to celebrate and recognise past and current people involved in the nation-building project.
