Community-driven projects and organisations will receive financial support following City of Playford’s allocation of round one of its Community Development and Events Grants.
Eight community organisations will share in $30,000 to help deliver projects and initiatives, including community markets, sporting clubs and a disability-accessible music festival.
Mayor Glenn Docherty said the grants are a great opportunity for Council to partner with the community on exciting projects and events that make a positive contribution to community and cultural life in Playford.
“Our grants help community-led projects to develop and help new ideas get off the ground,” said Mayor Docherty.
“We’ve had some wonderful applications this year, which cater to interests from all walks of life and is a reflection of our diverse community.”
Amplifii Music Festival received $5,000 to help bring the attraction to life this November.
The festival removes common barriers people living with disability face when attending live music events. Trained event workers and chill out zones provide a break away for those with sensory sensitivity.
Among the other projects funded include an event to celebrate our Caribbean community, support to enhance the Craigmore Community Market and funding towards Joe’s Connected Garden.
Joe’s Connected Garden is a group of neighbouring residents in Elizabeth Grove who have linked their gardens and share in their harvests. The community has grown to 15 connected gardens and some satellite gardens.
Funding of $5,000 will support the initiative’s 2023 Open Garden event, which will showcasethe connected garden set up including a Yellow Brick Road for attendees.
“Council is delighted to help support our community and the important work of our not-forprofit clubs and organisations. Community-led initiatives and events are vital to making our city a vibrant and exciting place to live and we want to continue to support this great work.”
