Development approval has been granted to a $12m medical hub in the Playford CBD that will bring improved medical services and support to northern suburbs residents.
Construction of the medical hub will commence in Playford’s Northern CBD in December, with the multi-level medical facility featuring consulting rooms, a pharmacy, cafe, car parking and landscaped surrounds.
Among the medical services available at the Playford Medical Hub, to be constructed at the corner of Philip Highway and Playford Boulevard, will be bulk-billing GP services, pathology, radiology and day surgery.
The privately-funded project will create approximately 100 construction jobs and 150 ongoing jobs once it opens in September 2020.
GPaxis Medical Group’s Dr Jim Kosmas said the design, two years in the making, includes a three-level open-air atrium and has been designed to allow patients to move freely from one floor to another.
“Patients and staff will have access to an on-site cafe, an outdoor garden boulevard with seating and an adjacent five-level undercover car park,” Dr Kosmas said.
“Comforts for medical practitioners have also been considered – consult rooms are modern and bright with separate washrooms. There are also spaces for conferences and clinical collaboration.”
The hub’s ground floor will feature bulk-billing GP services, a pharmacy and cafe, while the upper levels will include medical specialists, allied health, radiology and a day surgery.
Dr Kosmas said the Playford Medical Hub will facilitate collaboration between GPs, medical specialists and allied-health practitioners, among whom will be the building’s owners.
“The City of Playford has supported us to construct an iconic building that accommodates the health needs of patients in the north,” Dr Kosmas said.
“The Playford Medical Hub is an opportunity to consolidate our knowledge and networks in one site.”
GPaxis has been operating medical centres in Adelaide for over 20 years and its business charter is to provide comprehensive, affordable and accessible health care for all South Australians.
The Playford Medical Hub is part of a construction boom occurring in the Playford CBD over the next two years.
A multi-storey car park will be completed in November, while work will soon commence on a new $5m Grenville Hub for the local over 50s community, as well as retail tenancies bringing cafes and restaurants to the plaza.
Meanwhile, work on a $50m 4.5 star luxury hotel will begin in February, with anticipation high that a start date will soon be announced for the construction of the $40m Playford Arena. The Playford Medical Hub’s build is the latest milestone in the City of Playford’s Investment Strategy, inclusive of 3,880 FTE jobs created by $424m of private and public investment in the past three years across the Council region.
“The Northern CBD project is the most ambitious development within the Playford community since its development and is being driven by Council’s three-tiered investment strategy that is bringing jobs and growth to our community,” Mayor Docherty said.
“By focusing on our CBD, Sport and Health precincts, we are ensuring that our city can provide for the estimated 138,000 residents who will be living in the City of Playford by 2036, the state’s bicentenary.”
