World-class tennis returning to Playford in 2019.

Increased prizemoney for the City of Playford Tennis International women’s tournament heralds the announcement of a new date for the event in 2019.

The 2019 event will be held at the Playford Tennis Centre from Monday 28 October to Sunday 3 November, moving from the New Year’s period.

The men’s and women’s tournament prize pool now exceeds AUD$160,000 (all provided by sponsors).

City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the tournament, in the heart of Playford’s Sports Precinct, is a highlight of the community’s sporting calendar.

Our Council is excited to be hosting the third City of Playford Tennis International, later this year. The feedback we received from players, business, tourism operators and attendees was fantastic and local shops enjoyed increased trade and foot traffic during the top-quality sporting event.

The news comes hot on the heels of the City of Playford Tennis International recently receiving the Tennis SA Most Outstanding Event Award for the second year running.

Elizabeth North Primary School was also named the Tennis SA Most Outstanding School, recognising its commitment to the sport.

“We’re really excited to see the City of Playford Tennis International and the Elizabeth North Primary School receive these awards as they reflect upon the success of the Playford Tennis Centre since it was opened,” Mayor Docherty said.

“These successes are in addition to the centre having the largest social tennis competition and the largest junior Hot Shots program in the state, while running coaching for 13 local schools.

“We are seeing more and more people embracing the healthy opportunities this sport provides.”
