What is Reshaping Playford?

Reshaping Playford is a Healthy Communities Initiative introduced to the City of Playford for people aged 18 and over. The aim of this healthy lifestyle initiative is to create a supportive community to encourage healthy living and to tackle the ongoing issues of overweight, obesity and chronic disease.

Come join us for a walk around Fremont Park this Sunday 2nd June at 9.15am. There are 30 minute or 60 minute walk options, find more information on all the different walking groups in the City of Playford and enjoy some light refreshments. Please click on the flyer below for more information.

Reshaping Playford Health Expo

 Healthy living was celebrated in the City of Playford with the 2013 Reshaping Playford Health Expo taking place at the Civic Centre on Friday 24 May.

Hosted by television personality, Lisa McAskill, over a thousand people attended the event, which included health and wellbeing advice from over 40 providers as well as presentations including Zumba demonstrations, hand massages and delicious taste testing by Community Foodies.

Celebrity chef Adam Swanson teamed up with City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty in a cooking demonstration focussed on preparing healthy and affordable meals, with the Health Check Machine testing the wellbeing of over 200 people with eyesight, blood pressure, cholesterol and flexibility tests on offer.

Walking loops in Fremont Park

Have a look at the new signage & walking loops in Fremont Park! Reshaping Playford and OPAL have had some  signage installed that highlights the parks facilities, promotes other family friendly parks in Playford, as well as mapping out a 1km and 2km walking loop around the park. Follow the stencils and bollards on the footpaths around the park to increase your daily steps, undertake your exercise regime, or check out the great facilities the park has to offer.

  

                                                     
 
Fitness Equipment in Fremont Park and Virginia

Don’t forget our fitness equipment located at Fremont Park and Virginia Oval.
Being active does not have to be expensive, with these parks offering free access to outdoor gym equipment along the "be active" trail. Many local fitness and walking groups incorporate this outdoor gym into their programs.

Heart Foundation Walking is a fun, social and easy way to be active and best of all it's FREE! Start a group or join an existing one. There are currently 16 walking groups within the City of Playford. The Playford Library Service continues to have a range of FREE programs, activities and resources focusing on healthy eating, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.

Free community health workshops in the library including sessions on women’s health, come and try physical activity sessions i.e Zumba and Thai Chi, healthy eating tips and label reading.

Grow Your Own
A four session gardening course to learn the basics of gardening. Sessions include preparing, growing, harvesting and how to incorporate your freshly grown produce in delicious, healthy meals.

Cycling Courses: Ride a Bike Right

FREE Cycling courses are available to suit your needs! Learn to ride from scratch, recall those basic skills again, or gain skills, experience and confidence to ride safely on the road. Courses available for all skill levels. Programs available for individuals and groups.

Wisemove

WiseMove is an 8 week lifestyle program that supports people in being active and increasing their physical activity levels. The program also incorporates information on a variety of health topics and can include a variety of activities including zumba and thai chi.

HEAL - Healthy Eating Activity & Lifestyle

The HEAL™ program is a fun and motivating lifestyle modification program that enables participants at risk of, or living with chronic conditions to develop lifelong healthy eating and physical activity behaviours.
It includes 8 x weekly 1 hour group education and 1 hour group exercise sessions.
Sessions are free and held Wednesday mornings at UniHealth Playford GP Super Clinic, Munno Para West.

Strength for Life

Strength for life promotes health and wellbeing amongst people aged over 50 through strength training. This is a program run by qualified fitness providers. Participants are involved in a pre-screening assessment and programs are tailored and designed to suit your own needs. Programs are available at UniHeath Munno Para, YMCA Craigmore and Virginia Institute. Programs are ongoing throughout the year. For more information contact 8256 0355.

Heartmoves

Heartmoves is a gentle exercise program providing a fun, social and safe way to be active. This is an ongoing program held at Anglicare Therapy Service, Elizabeth. Cost if $5 per session.
*Must be aged 60yrs and over to become involved.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the amount of food products available? Do you want to learn more about what food packaging and labels really mean? Do you have Diabetes, high cholesterol or another health condition and want to know more about which foods to choose?
A Supermarket Tour could be for you!
Join one of our nutrition trained Community Foodies on a tour, where she will help you to learn what to look for in a label, what the healthiest options for you and your family are and how to choose from the hundreds of foods available.

Reshaping Playford is working with the City of Playford Food Co-ops providing low cost nutritional food and other grocery items. Pre-packed meal kits contain all the ingredients and a recipe to make a range of economical meals. Cooking classes can be individually arranged to suit your needs.
