​New smoke-free laws for playgrounds and covered public transport stops

From Thursday 31 May 2012, World No Tobacco Day, new smoke-free laws came into effect so that:

• Smoking is banned within 10 metres of children’s playground equipment in a public place.
• Smoking is banned under covered public transport waiting areas. This includes bus, tram, train and taxi shelters and other areas, used to board or alight from public transport, that are covered by a roof.
• Local Councils and other incorporated bodies can apply to have an outdoor area or event declared smoke-free.
• The age that a person can be fined for smoking-related offences has been reduced to 15 years.

Fines for smoking in these areas is ($75 expiation fee, maximum fine $200).

Fremont Park

Fremont Park is one of the City's most beautiful recreation and leisure facilities.

Centrally located near the Elizabeth City Centre, the picturesque park features a large lake with fountain and waterfalls. It also features a rotunda area for band performances and offers two colourful playgrounds to capture any child's adventurous spirit.

The park is also the host venue for many community events including Australia Day, Carols in the Park, School Holiday Programs, Weddings and Birthday Parties.

Stebonheath Park

Home to the "Hammock" and "Huge Spider Web", you'll need lots of time to explore one of Playford's newest parks, Stebonhealth Regional Park. Not only can the kids play and explore, you can enjoy a picnic in the shade and a stroll through the wetlands.
