Multicultural Programs

The Rural program for older people operates from two locations in the rural townships of Virginia and One Tree Hill and provides services to older people of Anglo, Italian, Greek and Vietnamese heritage.

The program provides supported opportunities in rural areas of Playford for seniors to identify and access services they may need and participate in activities that bring people together .

For information about the Rural program to members of the CALD community living in the City of Playford's rural areas of Virginia, Angle Vale and Buckland Park and the District Council of Mallala and the Township of Gawler please see below.

Italian Group Casa Aperta Del Nortd - Open House of the North

Casa Aperta Del Nortd meets twice a month on a Wednesday (fortnightly basis) between 10.00am and 2.00pm. The daily fee includes morning tea and activities. Members bring their own lunch.

A range of activities which include day outing, craft, fun fitness, guest speakers, entertainment, and an option for an annual overnight outings, games, cards and the opportunity to meet with other people in a friendly environment. The program aims to reduce isolation and improve the quality of life for older people who are isolated, frail or have a disability. Transport may be organised for older Italian people living in the rural areas of Playford, Mallala and Gawler.

The Italian program has language and cultural support provided through the Italian Benevolent Foundation.

Our Greek House/Home

The Greek group meets twice a month on a Wednesday (Alternate week to the Italian group) between 10.00am and 2.00pm. The daily fee includes morning tea, lunch and activities.

A range of activities include day outings, craft, fun fitness, guest speakers, entertainment and an option for an annual overnight outing, and the opportunity to meet with other people in a friendly environment. The program aims to reduce isolation and improve the quality of life for older people who are isolated, frail or have a disability. Transport may be organised for older members of the Greek community living in the rural areas of Playford, Mallala and Gawler.

The Greek program has language and cultural support provided through the Greek Orthodox Community.

Vietnamese Service

The Vietnamese service has re-commenced. The frequency and activities are determined by group members but also include regular outings.

Friday Access to Services Day

Access And Linkages To Information And Services For People Living in Virginia

Designed to provide a direct link for people with a disability or their carers living in Virginia and surrounds to information and services provided by The City of Playford.

  • Identify issues or concerns regarding access to buildings, services, opportunities and how we may be able to assist
  • Find out more about the Disability Discrimination Act and your rights
  • provide information on services the City of Playford offers to people with a disability and their carers
  • link people to social support programs
  • volunteer opportunities

Tai Chi

Tai Chi sessions are held every Friday.

Strength for Life

Wednesday weekly from 8.45am to 9.45am
Friday weekly from 9.30am to 10.30am

This group consists of people of Greek, Italian Anglo and Vietnamese heritage who come together to improve their level of fitness. The fee includes tai chi session and morning tea. Transport may be available for older members of the community living in the areas of Virginia, Mallala and Gawler.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy services are available every Friday and some Wednesday to book an appointment please contact Resthaven Therapy Services on telephone 8252 6811 to make an appointment.
