Transport Permits

Over-Dimensional Load / Wide Load Permit

The Road Traffic Act (1961) provides the legal basis for the operation of all heavy transport on South Australian Roads. When a vehicle or load exceeds mass (weight) or dimension (length, height, width) limits, then a permit is required to give that vehicle special permission to travel along certain roads. Permits therefore are legal documents that exempt certain types of heavy vehicles and/or loads to travel on specific roads at specific times.

Over-Dimensional - where either the load and/or the vehicle combination itself exceeds a length of 19.0 metres and/or a width of 2.5 metres and/or a height of 4.3 metres

Excess Mass - when the statutory mass limits (legal weight carrying capability) are exceeded on any axle or axle group and/or the Gross Vehicle/Combination Mass exceeds 42.5 tonnes.

The City of Playford is committed to providing a safe environment for all residents and as such approval must be sought from Council for the use of land and roads under the care and control of the City of Playford.

You may also be required to obtain a permit from the Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure as well as Council. If you are unsure please contact DPTI's office on Ph: 1800 018 313.

Mini Skips and Shipping Containers

The placement of mini skips, waste bins and shipping containers on Council Land or Roads may potentially cause a safety risk to the public if placed incorrectly.

The City of Playford is committed to providing a safe environment for all residents and as such approval must be sought from Council for the use of Council Land and Roads prior to the placement of the skip/container.

You are required to provide with your completed application the following:

• Public Liability Insurance Certificate of Currency (Minimum $20 million)
• Detailed site plan showing all activity on the Road and the proposed placement of the skip/container

Community Facility Signage

Community Facility Signs are blue directional signs with white text that can be erected by council to indicate businesses and/or not for profit community facilities.

The City of Playford is committed to providing a safe and well maintained environment for all residents and to ensure consistency in the installation of signage throughout the city, approval must be sought from Council for the erection of Community Facility Signage.
