The City has over 1,000 hectares of open space consisting of playground parks, sports reserves and trails through and around suburbs.
Council has some primary parks, which are used for community and cultural events including Carols by Candlelight, community festivals and supporting international sporting events visiting the city including the Tour Down Under.The parks are well utilised and appreciated by the community gaining high ratings in Council's community surveys.
Council undertakes improvements to new parks generated by subdivisions in consultation with the community. It also works with existing communities to revitalise existing parks.
From Thursday 31 May 2012, World No Tobacco Day, new smoke-free laws came into effect so that:
