Animal Management

City of Playford promotes and facilitates responsible pet ownership including animal welfare and the benefits of animal companionship.  We recognise that companion animals are part of the community and contribute to the quality of life.  To this end we will endeavour to enhance awareness of the needs of pets and the responsibilities of their owners whilst respecting the rights of non pet owners and recognising the need to protect the environment.

Our aims are:

  • Promote responsible pet ownership
  • Provide for the welfare and safety of dogs and cats
  • Ensure public safety
  • Protect native fauna and flora from the impact of dogs and cats
  • Harness the benefits of dog and cat ownership and acknowledge the importance of dogs and cats in society
  • Focus the expenditure of registration fees towards addressing domestic animal issues
  • Encourage education and community awareness
  • Provide effective management and suitable environment for dogs and cats within the community

‘The City of Playford is working towards providing dog parks where owners can unleash and exercise their dogs in a fenced area. The parks will be designed to incorporate landscaping and furniture for dogs and their owners to rest and play. The following sites are currently being planned and designed:

  • Stebonheath Park, Andrews Farm

Lend Lease are also planning a dog park as part of their Blakes Crossing development.’
