The installation of new shelters is not automatic. The provision of new bus shelters throughout the City of Playford is the responsibility of the State Government through the Public Transport Division of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI).
In previous years, a cost sharing agreement existed whereby the State Government and the City of Playford contributed towards the installation of bus shelters. The City of Playford under this arrangement installed the bus shelter and maintained it. The State Government, however, ceased their funding of bus shelters several years ago.
Council has been successful in obtaining funds in conjunction with the State Government Bus Shelter funding Program to install a number of shelters this year. The opportunity for additional funding will be reviewed at this time.
Requests for new shelters should be directed to the Public Transport Services Division of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) on (08) 8303 0822, detailing the bus route, bus stop, road name and which side of the road they are requesting one for.
Council is responsible for the maintenance of Council owned shelters but not those which are privately owned.
Where a Council owned shelter requires maintenance please contact Customer Care on (08) 8256 0333 to log a request for maintenance or send an email to: Playford@playford.sa.gov.au; stating:
Privately owned shelters are ones which carry advertising. These are the responsibility of Adshel (a private company). Contact: (08) 8364 6000 or Free Call their 24 hour hotline: 1800 501 402 to report any maintenance that is required.
Requests for new bus stops or alteration bus routes should be directed in writing to the Public Transport Services Division of DPTI, Riverside Building, North Terrace, Adelaide SA 5000.
