There are approximately 50 footbridges located within the Playford area. These bridges are of various types of construction, ranging from permapine through to concrete and steel.
The earlier ones were made from permapine and date back some 30-40 years. Due to the age and in some cases, vandalism, these wooden structures are all starting to deteriorate in condition, and will progressively need replacing.
Footbridge repair requests are individually inspected and assessed then placed on a program of works based on their condition rating. In the event that the damage is rated as minor, the request will be placed onto a register with works to be programmed as funding is made available.
Depending on engineering requirements it is anticipated that new footbridges will be of steel and concrete construction. Because of the different requirements of each bridge eg; spanning creeks, waterways and pipelines, the cost is going to vary.
Each request will be assessed in regard to community needs and pedestrian requirements in relation to existing or planned infrastructure eg; schools; shops and health services etc. The request is then prioritised and if considered necessary will be installed when funding is made available
