Stebonheath Park

Governments come together to launch another jewel in the Playford crown

On Saturday March 6 2010 the rain and wind held out just long enough for the Grand Opening and Community Celebration to welcome Stebonheath Park to the City of Playford.

More than 150 dignitaries and Playford community took part in the Grand Opening with local Kaurna youth dance troop Kuna Karro providing a high energy and dynamic welcome to guests with their dance, song and didgeridoo performance.

Special guest speakers Senator Penny Wong, Minister Jay Weatherill and Nick Champion MP along with City of Playford Mayor Martin Lindsell spoke of the value of the Park to the community, the environment, and for the future water needs of the region with Senator Penny Wong declaring the Park officially open to the public by activating a 'wall of water' over the wetland.

Following the Grand Opening the Community Celebration offered a first opportunity to appreciate the Park's wetland, park and Play Space features. Around 1500 people visited Stebonheath Park for the event.

Local's joined with people from all parts of Adelaide to enjoy thousands of pancakes and BBQ sausages to the beat of the Playford City Concert Band. Stage One of the Play Space along side bungee jumping, jumping castle and kid's carousel kept those young at heart active throughout the day.

Stay tuned for more updates on Stebonheath Park throughout the year. Stage Two of the Play Space is underway, with Stage Three commencing soon. As Playford's Purple Pipe's continue their paths to community parks and open space Councils reliance on mains water will be reduced. This will make for sustainable open space throughout the City.
