The City is divided into six wards represented by one Mayor and 15 Elected Members. This equates to a representation quota of 1:3699. The average representation quota for Councils of a similar size and type ranges from 1:5171 to 1:6532.
A review of the City's electoral representation was concluded on 23 October 2009 with the new ward boundaries coming into effect at the November 2010 General Council Elections. As appropriate, ward quota ratios were maintained during this period. Under the current Local Government Act 1999, a review of the electoral representation is required to be conducted every eight (8) years or where exceeds 10% of quota. The next review is scheduled for the year 2017.
