Transforming Peachey Road

An artist's impression of the Peachey Road transformation

Peachey Road - A safer road, a beautiful streetscape

Peachey Road is set to be transformed, with significant upgrades to streetscape over a series of stages, as part of the Playford Alive Urban Renewal Project.

The City of Playford and Renewal SA worked with the community to develop the design for the upgrade, with funding support from the Federal Government’s Special Local Roads Program.

Improving the road will be a major focus of the upgrade, and will include:

  • Reconstruction of the existing road
  • Removing some U-turn lanes in the median to help improve traffic flow
  • More clearly defined turning lanes
  • A new roundabout at the Peachey and Crittenden Road junction
  • Buffer strip for cyclists between vehicular traffic and parked vehicles
  • A pedestrian-friendly access zone will be created from the John Hartley School to the John McVeity Centre

But transforming Peachey Road also means increasing connectivity and improving the visual environment. Footpaths will be widened on both sides of the road allowing for better pedestrian access, an avenue of trees will be planted in the verges and there will be new kerbing, protected parking bays and new landscaping.

The transformation project, due to the significant length of Peachey Road and costs associated with reconstruction, has been split into stages for construction to be completed in an appropriate manner.

  • 2013 - Stage 1: Upgrades took place between Womma and Swallowcliffe Roads at Davoren Park and between Davoren Road and Smith Creek at Smithfield Plains.
  • 2015 - Stage 2: Upgrades took place between Whitington Road and Davoren Road.
  • 2016 - Stage 3: Currently under Construction and consists of upgrades between Whitington Road and Petherton Road

Project timeline for Stage 3:

SEM Civil is the principal contractor for Stage 3 of the project and works have already commenced on site. Construction for this stage will occur on both sides of the road between Whitington Road and Petherton Road

Construction is anticipated to be completed by early 2017.

How will this affect you?

As with any major road upgrade, traffic flows through the area will be disrupted from time to time, with rolling speeding restrictions occurring.

Pedestrian access may also be affected, with contractors erecting signage to inform the community.

Council will undertake routine inspections throughout the construction period to ensure the road is built to Council standards.

If you experience any difficulty during this period, or have any queries about the project, please contact the Project Manager – Rocco Ventra on 8256 0333.
