Proposed playground plan for Grandview Drive

Friday 19th, April 2013

Over the next few months local kids are set to benefit from a $600,000 Council investment in playgrounds across the City of Playford.

The project will include an upgrade of six existing playground sites, as well as the introduction of two new playgrounds at the Broadmeadows Baseball Club at Broadmeadows Reserve, Elizabeth North and Somerset Grove Reserve, Craigmore. The sites being renewed include Argent Street Reserve, Elizabeth Grove; Commodore Park Reserve, Andrews Farm; Currawong Reserve, Craigmore; Highfield Drive Reserve and Grandview Drive Reserve both in Hillbank and St Leonard Reserve, Elizabeth Downs.

The renewal of the Highfield site will see the playground shifted further away from the road to increase children’s safety. All playgrounds will use state of the art, solid, Australian-made and designed equipment and feature rubber matting and mulch underneath the play equipment.

Some of the sites will also have landscape furniture like picnic settings, shelters and bins, while a BBQ will be installed for the local community at Broadmeadows. The project has been determined as part of the Council’s Open Space Strategy 2012/13 and Council’s Assets Renewal program.

Work started on the first site at Grandview in late April and as the project is rolled out, Council will be communicating with neighbours to let them know what is happening. The new playgrounds will cost around $100,000 each and even the smallest refurbishment at Argent Street Reserve will be worth just on $50,000. The playgrounds are due to be set for action between now and mid-June.
